News From the Farm – August 23

Hello Subscribers!

The rain this past Wednesday was very helpful. This week we are introducing cantaloupe, watermelon and leeks. You can anticipate melon, carrots and potatoes being at the market stand consistently for awhile. Additionally, our second, third and fourth plantings of sweet corn are coming ripe all at the same time so we believe by next week we will have more than enough sweet corn for you all in the coming weeks.

A quick word about lettuce… The variety of lettuce we have been planting is not tolerating the heat well and has “bolted” on us several times – which means it flowers and turns bitter really quick. We have been able to get some heads of lettuce out of this recent planting, but not as much as we had hoped for. This is why lettuce has been somewhat limited at the market stand. We live and learn…thank you for your understanding.
