News From the Farm – August 16

It appears that we will have some warm weather coming up this next week which should be helpful for moving along the tomatoes. The watermelons and sweet corn look pretty good and we hope to have plenty by next week or the week after at the latest. This will be the last week for greenhouse seeding of some head lettuce. Transplanting is also winding down with only a few brassicas and lettuces to put out in the field as well. This is a good milestone seeing as we devote a full four days a week to harvesting at this point in the season. Beans alone can sometimes take a whole day to pick. Tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers and beans need to be picked every two or three days for optimum quality. We hope you enjoy this week’s produce. As always…grown with tender, loving care.
